Lynton Road

This garden began as an overgrown space with limited narrow beds. The client desired a garden filled with both drought-tolerant and edible planting. The garden walls began surrounded by visible barbed wire, so we planted fast-growing spiked climbers for a more naturalistic, aesthetically pleasing security system! We designed multiple areas for socialising and solitude, that would feel secluded once the plants reach full maturity.

Reclaimed York Stone paving at the entrances to the houses allows the client to wander into the space barefoot, before gradually dissipating into smaller reclaimed York Stone setts that meander along winding paths of self-binding gravel. The edges of the extensive beds are undefined, with the gravel continuing around the plants, acting as an additional mulch. The gold tone of the gravel responds to the warmth to a garden filled with sun-loving plants, where Mediterranean herbs, climbing fruit and vegetables are intermingled with delicate ornamental plant species. A small, contemporary potting shed with a large window also provides space for the client to grow their own edible plants.
